We know different companies, even branches within companies, require different levels of security. RentalMan’s new password modification was developed not only to increase security, but to allow for more flexibility down to the location level.
Three security options are now available, all of which are configured by a control record:
Option 1: The highest level of security will now require username and password on every screen – the username and password field will always be required and default to blank values. Users will be required to enter both pieces of information.
Option 2: Require username and password on every screen, but default the username to the last authenticated user – the username here is defaulted as a convenience measure. If a user stays at a workstation, he would only have to type in his password on each of these screens. This is essentially the same functionality as now.
Option 3: The lowest level of security will not require username and password after the initial sign on to RentalMan--users will not be prompted for a username and/or password when taking RentalMan options.
What are the benefits?
- Improved security with the removal of clear text passwords.
- Full integration with IBM security. All the rules of the number of failed sign-on attempts and disabled users apply consistently between the System i and RentalMan.
- Flexibility of security levels that can be configured down to the location level.
